ARE THE QUESTIONS IN INSIGHT ACTUAL QUESTIONS FROM THE CURRENT OR A FORMER VERSION OF THE NATIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY EXAMINATIONS?
No! The questions utilized in all of our products are unique to and created by Scorebuilders. Any similarity in the questions contained within the sample examinations and the questions on any version of the National Physical Therapy Examinations is purely coincidental. The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy does not release old examinations nor do they authorize any company to use actual examination questions in their licensing resources.
ARE THE QUESTIONS IN INSIGHT DESIGNED TO BE SIMILAR IN STYLE AND FORMAT TO THE QUESTIONS ON THE NATIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY EXAMINATIONS?
Our goal is to write questions that are as consistent as possible with the questions on the National Physical Therapy Examinations. Great care is taken to make sure the questions are developed using the format and style used on the actual examination. Each question is designed to be reflective of subject matter contained within the current examination blueprint published by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Our item writers include a mix of academic faculty and full time clinicians with a variety of advanced degrees and clinical specialization. Students routinely comment that our sample exams are extremely consistent with the difficulty level of the actual National Physical Therapy Examinations.
I HAVE ANOTHER SOURCE OF EXAMINATION QUESTIONS ALREADY, DO YOU THINK I WOULD BENEFIT FROM USING INSIGHT?
Virtually all students possess a minimum of two examination resources and the majority of students have three or more. Although each resource is designed to prepare students for the National Physical Therapy Examinations, students often benefit from having access to multiple resources. Each resource has a unique design and covers academic material in varying degrees of breadth and depth. In addition, the sample examinations often vary in focus and level of difficulty. In some cases, students purchase an additional resource purely for additional opportunities to take sample examinations.

It is possible, however, to exit the examination if necessary. When exiting Insight all question data will be automatically preserved.
IS THE SUMMARY DATA FROM "ALL CANDIDATES" BASED SOLELY ON THE STUDENTS' FIRST ATTEMPT OR DOES IT ALSO INCLUDE DATA FROM THE SECOND ATTEMPT?
Performance data for "All Candidates" is based solely on data obtained from the students' first attempt. If students retake the same examination it is important to recognize that their ability to recall specific items from the examination will artificially inflate their actual score. As a result, the data from all future attempts is not utilized when determining summary data for "All Candidates."
IS THERE A RECOMMENDED PASSING SCORE FOR THE EXAMINATION?
There is not an established uniform "passing score" for the examinations since the circumstances in which students elect to take the examination are very different. For example, some students take the examination up to nine months prior to graduation, while others take the examinations after graduation. The most relevant factor to consider when deciding on the relative strength of an examination score is the mean examination score for all candidates. This number, which is constantly updated based on student performance, reflects the relative difficulty of the established examination. Ideally, a score of greater than or equal to the mean represents a strong score. Students' scores typically range from 55-85 percent of the total questions answered correctly.
CAN STUDENTS PRINT OUT THE EXAMINATION QUESTIONS?
Insight is designed to be an interactive study tool and therefore does not permit students to print out the examination questions. The program allows students to print their performance analysis summary and have full access to the examination questions and explanations within the review book. The review book contains a detailed answer key that explains the correct and incorrect options for each question.
CAN I RETAKE THE SAMPLE EXAMINATIONS?
Students can retake the examinations, however, they should recognize that retaking the same examination is a better assessment of memory than mastery. The second attempt is typically a poor measure of mastery since students have already been exposed to the examination questions. It is critical, however, for students to utilize the performance analysis section of Insight in order to review correct and incorrect questions and to determine individual strengths and weaknesses. Once an examination is retaken, students will maintain access to basic scoring data, but will only have access to the specific questions from their most recent attempt of the same examination. Students attempting to determine mastery should utilize exams that they have not been previously exposed to. Information on other sources of sample exams is available in the Additional Mastery section which can be accessed through the Main Menu.
WILL THE QUESTIONS UTILIZED IN INSIGHT CHANGE EACH YEAR?
An informal item analysis is performed annually on each of the examinations. As part of the process, selected items are removed and new questions are added to the next edition. Items are also removed and added to ensure that the questions remain consistent with changes in the examination blueprint. The number of questions added in any edition cycle can be as few as 20 or as many as 180.
WHY ARE THE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE BOOK?
The answer key which includes the explanations of the correct and incorrect answers is located in the review book. The correct answer is highlighted in order for candidates to quickly identify the correct response. Students should not attempt to answer the questions using the review book and instead should take the examinations using Insight and then access the answer key to explore the rationales for the correct and incorrect options.
CAN THE SAMPLE EXAMINATIONS ON INSIGHT ACCOMMODATE STUDENTS WITH DOCUMENTED LEARNING DISABILITIES?
The time available for students to complete the Insight full-length examinations is four hours for PT and three hours for PTA. Students eligible for extended time (time and a half or double time) can easily be accommodated by calling our office (207) 885-0304. Insight is compatible with several systems that magnify computer type for students that are visually impaired.
WHEN FUTURE EDITIONS OF THE REVIEW BOOK ARE RELEASED WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS INSIGHT?
You will have access to Insight for three years regardless of the release of future editions. The registration code is always linked to the edition of the book purchased. As a result, your questions remain static within Insight. If this was not the case, the answer key in the book would fail to correlate with the Insight exams.
WHAT IF I PURCHASED THE REVIEW BOOK USED FROM ANOTHER STUDENT OR COMPANY AND WOULD LIKE TO ACCESS INSIGHT?
If a student purchased a used book from another student or company, they would not be able to utilize the associated registration code. Students in this situation can elect to purchase an individual registration code through the Insight web site insight-sb.com.
